French winger Laurent Robert has slammed claims by Charlton Athletic that he dived to win a penalty in Saturday's 3-1 win at St James' Park.

"I DIDN'T DIVE!"

Robert is insisting that he was fouled by Charlton defender Chris Perry.

Charlton boss Alan Curbishley was furious - even more so when the ball finially ended up in the net - but Robert told Alan Oliver from the Evening Chronicle:

"It was a very good three points for us, because Charlton played very well but Newcastle were better.

"We got off to a good start when Alan scored in the first 60 seconds from my cross, and I was very happy then.

"We played well and it was an important win for us and a good three points.

"The penalty was given by the referee, not me. It was the referee's decision and he saw a foul.

"At Spurs last week we maybe could have had a penalty when Aaron Hughes was fouled and also Craig Bellamy.

"This week was our turn I think.

"It was important we scored then because at 2-1 they may have had a chance, but at 3-1 to us we were very happy."
