Robert Going For Gold vs Real Mallorca

ROBERT SPEAKS OUT

Robert has already beaten his goalscoring record (per season) this campaign, and needs just one more goal to beat his record in Europe... with either United OR Paris St Germain.

Robert set up former winger Nobby Solano in a Champions League qualifier against Partizan in Belgrade for the winning goal and then netted the winner himself in the away tie in Breda. He then hit a cracker in Switzerland against FC Basel.

His first European goal at St James' Park came against Real Mallorca.

Robert enjoys making goals just as much as he scores them and said today: "I am just as happy making goals as I am scoring them like I did for Alan Shearer against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

"But at the same time everyone likes scoring and I'm no different.

"I was cup-tied in my first season when I came here in 2001 as I had already played in the Intertoto Cup with Paris St Germain.

"And last season, while I played in nine matches, I didn't actually score a goal in any of our Champions League games.

"But it has been different this time around and I am really enjoying it all.

"My three goals make this my best ever season on the scoring front in Europe, equalling the three I got in the Champions League for Paris St Germain in 2000-01 and I would love to break that record tomorrow night."
