"Shearer - The Best In England!" - Sam Allardyce

SHEARER, THE BEST IN ENGLAND

Allardyce is hoping that the Newcastle striker Shearer has a rare 'off day' on Sunday as his side attempt to break away from the relegation scrap.

The former England captain has been in brilliant form recently, netting six goals in five games, including a brace in Thursday's 3-0 UEFA Cup win against Real Mallorca.

Shearer has bagged 24 goals so far this season and, according to Sam Allardyce, is the best in England.

"Alan is better than (Thierry) Henry and (Ruud) van Nistelrooy because he is doing it at 33," said Sam.

"The reason why he is doing it is because he changed his game when he was as young as Henry and van Nistelrooy.

"Shearer was then equally as mobile, skilful and strong as those two. The injuries began to take their toll on his pace a little bit, but not on his mind.

"He was intelligent enough to realise he needed to change his game completely. There are not too many people in the world that could do that and stay at top level."
