Newcastle United defender Jonathan Woodgate has warned Premiership strikers that he is yet to reach his best form this season, after seeing his campaign hampered by an abdominal problem.
As a result of this problem, Woodgate has only made 21 appearances, but it now fit and is hoping to give the Magpies a boost as they attempt to pick up from a recent poor defensive record which has seen them keep only one cleansheet in 15 outings.
"My form is not bad, but I can play miles better than I am," he said.
"I am doing all right, but it is not really good enough because I want to be the best I can in every game.
"Yes, there is a lot more to come. I have got to be a lot more consistent than I have been on the field, to be fair, but I will hopefully keep on playing well and get better and better."
He added: "I love keeping clean sheets - there is nothing better than when you come in with that clean sheet. Defenders and goalkeepers thrive on them.
"The forwards score the goals, we have got to keep clean sheets. We are playing away from home and that is a big difference. We need to keep a clean sheet and if we don't score, then we have still got a draw.
"That is the defenders doing their job, and we have got to do our job more often."
