After today’s goalless draw against Arsenal Sir Bobby Robson has claimed that he needs TWO more top players to be competing for the top places of the Premier League, and that these two players are the difference between Newcastle United and Arsenal.
Robson believes that by investing some money into tops players Newcastle United will regain the fighting spirit and reach the top.
In an interview following the game Sir Bobby was frank in saying that they are where we want to be. Yet at the moment Newcastle are striving to claim fourth place as theirs and only theirs.
"It will mean investment in the form of a couple of top quality players but we are not far behind.
"We have a younger team and some have learned today. (Darren) Ambrose has and Jermaine (Jenas) was remarkable in the second half against Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva, who are two seasoned internationals."
Sir Bobby Robson seemed pleased at the way Newcastle handled Arsenals Superstars and at the way they played the game as equals. Arsenal being no better and no worse than us.
He added ”I thought it was a stirring contest with hardly anything between the two sides,"
"It was a game where nobody made any mistakes and everyone was faultless. There were no free presents today.
Nobody could manufacture anything. Both defences were maybe on top of the attackers and they nullified any pace, movement, or shots all afternoon.
Our two centre halves were marvellous and theirs were exactly the same. It was a good battle in midfield. There was nothing to choose between the players.
Nobody got free. It was a seesaw game, which fluctuated from one end to the other. It was a rousing game."
The match saw Jonathon Woodgate receive Man Of The Match for keeping the defence strong.
