Newcastle United manager Sir Bobby Robson expresses his delight at his side's recent defensive strength - especially since the return of Jonathon Woodgate.

The return to fitness of Jonathan Woodgate has hugely increased the Magpies' defensive strengths, and Robson was quick to praise the England international after Newcastle's 0-0 draw with Arsenal at the weekend.

Robson said: "Jonathan was outstanding. That was an England performance. He stood up to one of the best strikers in the world and enhanced his reputation."

As Robson's men prepare to take on PSV Eindhoven at St James' Park on Wednesday evening in the second leg of their Uefa Cup quarter final clash, the Newcastle boss is confident.

Robson added: "I'm very much heartened by our defence. If we play like that we will go through as I can't see PSV scoring."
