SHEARER DELIGHTED

Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer was delighted with last night's 2-1 UEFA Cup quarter-final victory over PSV Eindhoven at St James' Park, and claims that his side are totally confident going into the semis.

The Magpies' will face Marseille thanks to goals from Alan Shearer and Gary Speed.

Speaking to ITV2 after the game, Shearer said:

"We knew that we'd be a threat from set-pieces - we always are with Laurent Robert's deliveries. It just shows how important they are. They can win you games and they did that tonight.

"It was tight and we didn't expect any different. You don't get any dummies in the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup but I thought we thoroughly deserved our win.

"There some quality teams left but when we are at home we have a chance and if we defend like we have been in the last few games who knows.

"It's going okay for us, fourth spot in the Premiership and who knows [in the Uefa Cup]. We'll keep our fingers crossed - it won't be through a lack of hard work if we don't get anything."

Gary Speed is also very excited about the prospect of the final, although admits that the semi-final will be tough:

"A semi-final of European competition is going got be a tough game. They have done well to knock Inter out. We look forward to it."

All Newcastle need to do now however, is "Concentrate on the game in hand, NOT the final!"
