Magpies midfielder Gary Speed was
delighted to net the winning goal against PSV to send Newcastle United
into the UEFA Cup Semi-Finals against Olympique Marseille, but was also
very quick to add the fact that Marseille are "no mugs". They beat
Inter Milan both home and away to reach the semis themselves, also
defeating Liverpool this season..
Speed said:
"It was a great ball in from Laurent, and I just wanted to get on
the end of it and thankfully it went in.
"I hadn't realised JJ was behind me and I clipped him as I jumped, but
he nicked a goal off me over in Eindhoven so I'll have that one off him!
"We had to dig deep when they got back in at 1-1 with the penalty, but
we kept at it and got our rewards.
"It's got tougher with every round, and Marseille are obviously no mugs
after winning two legs against a team like Inter Milan,
"The games are coming thick and fast now, and once the game against
Villa on Sunday is out of the way we will have to turn our attentions
back to the UEFA Cup.
"You can't prioritise them between league and UEFA Cup, and as I said
before the PSV game it's great to be in with a chance of fourth place
and the UEFA Cup with only a few games left of the season."
