Young midfiedler Darren Ambrose has insisted that Newcastle was always the club for him - despire Arsenal showing interest. However, the players currently at St James' Park were the key to his move, aswell as the expectations of a trophy within the camp.

Speaking to the Sunday Sun, Ambrose explained:

"If it had got to the summer there would have been a few clubs coming in - I knew Arsenal were interested and I think Tottenham were interested.

"But I always wanted to come to Newcastle because of the players they've got here and the expectations of everyone around the place in terms of winning trophies.

"I supported Tottenham as a youngster so I wouldn't have gone to Arsenal anyway! But it was always going to be Newcastle.

"They're known to play their young players as soon as they buy them, Bobby Robson is manager, they've got a good chairman and great players.

"There was never a question that Newcastle would be the club."
