Nigeria's coach, Christian Chukwu, has revealed how he wants Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi to play for his side instead of England.

Christian Chukwu told BBC Sport:

"We know Ameobi has played for the England youth side but we are hoping that with the new Fifa rule, we can make him change his mind.

"Maybe he took that decision (to play for England) at a very tough moment and at a young age.

"He's a fantastic striker who has proved that he can score goals.

"We can't force him to come and play, (but) I hope to talk to him and make him understand he has a role to play in helping his fatherland."
