Reports today claimed that Newcastle United had offered Leeds £6,500,000 in exchange for Alan Smith and Danny Mills. These reports however, have been denied.

Smith is known target of Robson, and is wanted by several other Premiership clubs, although it is beleived that a move aborad would be Smith's prefered choice.

As for the links with Mills, god only knows where they came from, although a full-back is one of the positions that the Magpies' need to fill this summer.

Freddy Shepherd has denied the reports and has insisted that no offer has been tabled... infact, no preliminary talks have been held at all regarding summer targets.

On this matter, Shepherd said:

"The end-of-season meeting with Sir Bobby Robson about players for next season has not even been held yet.

"There have been no decisions about players for next season because the current season isn't over yet and we are completely focused on our next two matches."

Funds for any transfer will presumably be generated from selling current squad members.  Reports this week have claimed that Laurent Robert and Hugo Viana are wanting a move away from St James' Park, with Steve Harper also wanting out.

Shola Ameobi has also expressed his disappointment in lack of first-team action and could well leave too!
