It looks like Newcastle United have missed out on Leeds striker Alan Smith, with the England international set to move to Premiership rivals, Manchester United.
Smith is ready to move to the Old Trafford club for £8m this weekend after advances from several Premiership clubs including Newcastle were rejected.
Liverpool, Everton, Birmringham and Middlesbrough also showed interest in Smith, but it looks like his future lies with the Reds. He always had his sights set on Manchester, and now the 24-year-old dream looks like it has come true.
Struggling Leeds have already been forced to part with goalkeeper Paul Robinson who joined Tottenham Hotspur and are now set to lose Smith. It has also been reported that Sir Alex Ferguson is considering a £3m offer for James Milner.
The news that Newcastle have missed out on Smith will come as a blow to Toon fans, who saw the striker as an ideal replacement for Alan Shearer.
Who would you like Sir Bobby to bring in now? Let us know below...
