Steve Harper has realised that if his dream to play for England is to come true then he needs to be seen playing an active role in a team offering his an opportunity.

Newcastle Uniteds Second keeper Steve Harper may well remain at Newcastle next season and be granted a loan deal else where to ensure he plays 1^st team football on a regular basis.

The 29 year old has been very patient at Newcastle whilst watching Shay Given play game after game but towards the end of last season expressed his wish to leave St James’ Park to pursue a place in a first team.

Having been on Tyneside for 10 years since joining the club in 1993, Newcastle are keen to keep Harper where he belongs but will not stop a loan deal going through.

Both Leicester and Portsmouth and interested in the keeper as are Scottish side Celtic under the management of Martin O’Neil.
