Speed Staying Despite Departure Rumours

“I don't think Gary faces a fight for his first-team place. He was one of the best players at Newcastle last season." Said Evans.

"Gary is 100 per cent committed to the club and has no worries about anything

I think all this talk is hype generated by the Nicky Butt story.”

Several Premiership clubs showed immediate interest in Speed when it was revealed that Newcastle were hot on the heels of Nicky Butt – clubs including Middlesborough (who now seem to have lost interest and are set to complete a move for Geremi) and Fulham who have a player missing in their team and need to recruit.

However despite the interest it looks like Speed has decided that his place at Newcastle is well worth fighting for and that is indeed what he intends to do!
