Craig Bellamy looks set to start the season on the bench as he recovers from yet another serious set back to his knee injury!

The striker who will turn 25 on Tuesday is devastated that this problem could again see him miss out on some vital games for Newcastle, who start the season with a clash against rivals Middlesborough.

After six operations on his knee and playing just 24 games last season Bellamy was convinced that he would be fit for the coming season. However a blow in training on Friday saw his hopes dashed from him as he now waits for news on how serious this reoccurrence is.

Bellamy was one of several players left behind as Newcastle set off on a mini tour of the Far East.

Newcastle have been linked with both James Beattie and Patrick Kluivert over the last few weeks. With this set back to Bellamy Sir Bobby may be forced to sign up a player who will be fit for the opening games.

During Craig’s injury nightmare last season Shola Ameobi linked up with Alan Shearer to create a strong strike force.
