Newcastle United, along with Liverpool and local rivals Sunderland, have been linked with Hartlepool United striker, Adam Boyd. Magpies' assistant manager John Carver was at Hartlepool's opening game of the season at the weekend and was impressed with what he saw.

Liverpool and Sunderland also had representatives at the game to keep an eye on 22-year-old Boyd who found the net during the game against Bradford City in League One.

Body spend part of last season on loan at Boston United and looked like he was on his way out of the club, but his form at the end of last season ensured that he would remain at the club for a little longer.

Newcastle are expected to keep an eye on the striker during this season.
