As United prepare to take on Spurs on Saturday at SJP in their first home game of the season, the latest message from Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd is: LAY OFF KIERON DYER!

Shepherd told the Official Site:

"Kieron has apologised, and we're happy that he's done that.

"That was the course of action that he needed to take, and I do hope that we can draw a line under the whole situation now and as far as I'm concerned that should be the end of it."

Every time he [Dyer] touched the ball on Wednesday night at SJP during England's friendly against Ukraine, he got a chorus of boos from the crowd.

Shepherd added:

"I hope that isn't the case. It's no good to us as a team if one of the players is being booed every time he touches the ball.

"I'd ask the fans to remember that it is not all about Kieron Dyer. It's about the team, and we all want them to do well.

"We're supporters of Newcastle United, and we have to look at the bigger picture."

Will you be booing Dyer on Saturday?  Message board.
