Another bid for Rooney?

Despite Everton rejecting Newcastle's £20million bid for teenager Wayne Rooney, Magpies' chairman Freddy Shepherd claims that the offer will remain on the tables for some time. If this £20million bid fails, it is believed that Newcastle will push to £24million before going to £30million!

A quote from The Sun:

NEWCASTLE will not take no for an answer in their sensational pursuit of Wayne Rooney.

As SunSport revealed on Saturday, the Toon have set aside £30million to battle for the Everton teenager’s signature.

They have backing from a leading bank to fund the swoop and, though they had a £20m bid rejected last night, will up their offer to £24m within the next 48 hours.

They are even prepared to go as high as the full £30m.

But do Newcastle really need Wayne Rooney?  If we were to sign him, what is the maximum price you would pay for him?

Personally, I don't think our strikeforce needs anything doing to it.  After all, Kluivert is still sitting on the bench behind Shearer and Bellamy, and we have Shola Ameobi for cover.  What we really need to spend our money on, is a central defender!
