John Carver today revealed that Newcastle United have approached him with an offer just days after sacking the team coach.

"I have been to the club and they have hit me with a job proposal.

I don't want to go into too many details but I've got to go back in on Wednesday to speak to the club and see what the situation is."

Despite the calls from Newcastle Carver said one or two clubs had shown an interest in him

"In the last 24 hours I've had three or four calls - and there are one or two clubs after me.”

The coach who has ambitions to become a manager one day spoke of his disappointment when he learnt after guiding Newcastle to victory against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend, that he was no longer needed at St James’ Park where he has been since 1991.

"It is something I have to think about. I do have ambitions to be a manager and after having a taste of it on Saturday it is something I certainly want to do.

It was a dream come true for me to manage the team I've supported all my life against Blackburn.

Then to come in on Sunday and find out there's not a job for me on the senior staff - it's a sort of numbness and emptiness.

But that's football and you can't afford to bear any grudges."

The 39 year old, is said to have been offered a job working at the academy with the young talent Newcastle Football club are producing, however this may seem like a step back in time, for he started off as director of the academy at Newcastle.

Graeme Souness said of the offer:

"John Carver has been offered a position at the club and I hope he is going to take it. I've only heard good things about him and you can't have too many good people at the club."
