Former Manchester United defender Ronny Johnsen, has arrived at Newcaslte United to discuss a move. He trained with the squad on Tuesday morning and is available to sign immediately having been out of contract when the transfer window closed on 31st August.

Newcastle need a defender, having lost Jonathan Woodgate to Real Madrid and 35-year-old Johnsen looks like the player who will be given the task of trying to fill his boots.

Johnsen, who will undergo a medical and discuss personal terms for a short-term contract told Sky Sports News:

"It is a huge club. One with big ambitions to win major honours both domestically and in Europe."

What do you think of this move?  Is he a reasonable replacement for Woodgate? Let us know!
