Following Newcastle United's dissapointing 1-3 defeat by Manchester United on Sunday at St. James' Park, Graeme Souness is once again left angry. Wayne Rooney opened the account for the visitors, before Alan Shearer grabbed an equaliser...
Ruud van Nistelrooy (pen) and Wayne Rooney (injury time) sealed victory for the visitors.
After the game, Souness said:
"I'm angry and frustrated because once again things did not go for us.
"We were second best for the first 15 or 20 minutes. We fell behind early on and they bossed us after that.
"But we were still in with a chance as long as it stayed at 1-0. We had a few chances in the first half, Alan put one just wide after Ferdinand slipped and Patrick had a chnace as well when he went round the goalkeeper.
"We kept plugging away, and we got the reward with the equaliser from Alan. It needed something special and Alan gave us that.
"But once again no sooner have we given ourselves a chance then they get the break at the other end. I thought Rooney was very clever with a little nudge on O'Brien, the free kick isn't given and they end up with a penalty which I don't think was a penalty.
"I don't want to sound like a broken record, but that was a game we should have got something from. A couple of times we haven't defended as well as we should have, but we've been unlucky again.
"We're in a bad run, but we have to keep plugging away and get ouyt of that run. We're not playing badly, but the results aren't going our way. We need a win to turn it round but we're not panicking."
