Ray Clarke has left Southampton to fill the position left vacant by Charlie Woods just over a month ago.

Clarke and Souness have remained good friends since the 70’s when they were teammates.

The 51 year old had been at Southampton for 2 years said the following;

“It was a very difficult decision to make, but in the end it was an opportunity I could not turn down.

It is a chance to work with Graeme again, but that is not the overriding factor in my decision because I have worked independent from him for 7 years.

I will be chief scout there but the role will encompass Europe as well, which is a big challenge for me.

But I have nothing but good things to say about Southampton. It is a smashing club and I have absolutely no doubts they will stay up and continue to progress.”
