Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer could be out for three weeks, after picking up a hamstring injury in training before the Magpies' match away at Crystal Palace.
He said:
"I won't be right for the UEFA Cup-tie. I'd have thought there was a more realistic chance of me being ready for the game at Chelsea.
"I had a little tear in my hamstring last Thursday and, while our physios have told me it will take two to three weeks, I am aiming to come back before that.
"It's not a bad tear and I'm a quick healer. I hope to be in light training by the middle of the week."
