Reports recently suggested that Newcastle were makingmoves from Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole and defedner Glen Johnson, but these have today been denied by Magpies boss, Graeme Souness.
Newcastle have already shelved their interest in Portuguese teenager Cicero who has been impressive whilst on trial at the club - as Souness would rather concentrate on improving other areas of the squad.
Chelsea duo Jole Cole and Glen Johnson have been linked with a move to St James' Park, but the Scot rubbished these reports, saying: "Reports that I have tried for Cole and Johnson are simply not true."
Defenders will surely be Souness' priority in January, but Johnson is not a target.
Meanwhile, reports today have linked Newcastle with a move for Real Madrid striker, Morientes.
Liverpool had a £3.5m bid for the striker turned down yesterday and it is believed that Newcastle will be willing to go as high as £10m for the 28-year-old.
