According to today's French media, both Newcastle United and Arsenal could be making a January move for Marseille defender Abdoulaye Meite - who is greatly admired by the Magpies and Arsene Wenger.

Newcastle were alerted to him after they played against Marseille in last years UEFA cup.

The Ivory Coast international is maybe more likely to end up at Highbury than St James Park, with the French Media putting the Gunners down as thier favourites to land him - should he be allowed to leave the Stade Velodrome.

Marseille are determined to hang on to him.

Newcastle are also said to be interested in Habib Beye - who could very well be allowed to leave the club
