Kieron Dyer was apparently close to tears due to the abuse suffered at the hands of Newcastle fans.

Kieron Dyer was apparently close to tears due to the abuse suffered at the hands of Newcastle fans.

The Geordie fans have clearly not forgiven the England-international for refusing to play on the right wing and refusing the captains armband back in September.

Since then, Dyer has apologised and acted professionally, clearly playing his heart out for the club but the Newcastle fans still have not forgiven him.

Newcastle Coach Dean Saunders said:

"A minority of fans had been giving Kieron Dyer some stick."

"He came in shaking his head after we had beaten Southampton and he was clearly upset. When I heard about some of the abuse which had been directed at him I can understand why he was upset.”

"While he has won over the majority of the fans, he is still getting abuse from others.”

"All we can say is that since we came here Kieron has been no trouble at all. He has trained properly. In fact, he is one of the best at the club, and he is lively around the place.”

"On the pitch he has been excellent. He has covered every blade of grass in matches and he could not have done more for us - or indeed the fans."
