Back in the summer, Newcastle were just one of several sides chasing Hatem Trabelsi, and he looked a nailed on certainty to move... but to the surprise of everyone he remained in Holland. But now it looks like Newcastle have not entirely given up on Sir Bobby Robson's long term target...

... and are hoping to tempt Trabelsi into a summer move - according to press reports in both England and abroad.

Graham Souness was present at Ajax v Auxerre to watch the Tunisian international in action, taking time out from his preparations for tonight's third-round, first-leg UEFA Cup clash with Heerenveen.

Newcastle United are also set to battle with Inter Milan over the Bosman signing of Bayern Munich star, Samuel Kuffour.

Kuffour’s agent said: "Unless something dramatic happens, he will be leaving Bayern.

"We are aware of the reports about Newcastle and Inter.

"The player does not have a preference as to where he’d like to play, only that it is an important League like Italy, England or Spain."
