No Rush for Shearer

Newcastle Manager Graham Souness has stated he will not rush Alan Shearer into a decision over his future.

Souness is desperately trying to convince the 34-year-old to stay on another season for the Magpies and not retire.

Souness will be short of quality strikers if Shearer retires. Bellamy is likely to be sold and Kluivert may not win an extended stay due to poor performances.

Souness said:

"What Alan does will not affect our intentions at the end of the season in terms of bringing new players in - because I have emphasised all along that Alan, next year, would be equally as important to me for what he gives me off the pitch as on the pitch.

"I want him around the place; I want him standing shoulder to shoulder with me."
