Newcastle Duo Facing Operations

Newcastle defender Celestine Babayaro and striker Shola Ameobi both look likely to need operations on different injuries.
Babayaro has only played 8 games since joining in January and had been struggling with knee paints that nobody seems to understand the cause of.

“It’s extremely frustrating; he is doing work at the gym but still says he has pain in his knee”
“He has had 2 separate scans and seen two separate specialists and they have found nothing”
“Ultimately there will have to be an op to see if we can see what’s wrong”
In the meantime, striker Shola Ameobi is struggling with a hip injury. He was playing in Thursday’s 1-0 win over Sporting despite the fact he hadn’t trained for 3 weeks prior.
Ameobi said:
"The specialist will sort it out at the end of the season. Most likely I'll need surgery. It's my hip joint - the ball in the socket. It's chipped a bit and rubbing on the tendon. That's giving me pain. It's quite a long recovery, so it'll be summer."
"We'll see how it goes. I haven't been training, I've been resting it. Hopefully I'll have enough there for games.
"It was tough (against Sporting). With this injury you never know how it's going to react. Sometimes it's all right, other times I can't walk.
"I lasted the game but at the end I was cramping up. It's not feeling great now, it's a bit sore, but I'll just get on with it."
