Offer for Owen

Newcastle United are rumoured to have made a bid believed to be the region of £18 million for Real Madrid striker Michael Owen.

Newcastle have been linked with Owen recently and with it looking likely that Newcastle will be short on fire-power next season, the club have decided to act.

It was just last August that Owen was bought by Madrid from Liverpool for just £8 million and so if the deal was to be completed, it would represent a massive profit for Real.

Unfortunately, Newcastle could face competition from Arsenal and Chelsea, and because both teams have Champions League football, could be a more tempting offer.

Another drawback is that Owen has hit form over in Spain and has pledged his future to Real Madrid.

If Newcastle do sign Owen, it could be a major risk due to the large fee and high salary, which coupled with other signings expected to take place could amount debts for Newcastle if European Football is not achieved.
