Newcastle Manager Graeme Souness has admitted that Jermaine Jenas is an important part of the first team squad.

There have been rumours of interest in Jenas from big clubs like Arsenal but Souness will not want to let the £10 million England international leave.

This comes after the 22-year-old had a poor finish to the season, not being able to find the form he has been capable of.

But Souness will be happy to see the Newcastle vice-captain has found his feet again, performing well for England in their summer tour of the USA.

Souness said:

"JJ's an important member of the squad,"

"I made him captain last year and that shows what I think of him."
