Jenas: I Was Right to Ignore Souness

Newcastle and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes he was right to ignore his manager’s advice and go to the USA with England.

Magpies Manager Graeme Souness did not want his vice-captain to fly out to America for a 2 match tour with England, describing them as ‘Mickey Mouse Fixtures’, but after 2 distinctive performances, Jenas feels he was right to go.

The 22-year-old understands his manager’s plea for him not to play but felt he needed to go if he was ever to be a regular England international.

Jenas said:

"I can understand the gaffer's feelings as he wanted me to have a rest," said Jenas. "That's fair enough but I wanted to go to America and I'm delighted to have played such a major role.

“I've another two caps, I've gained experience at the highest level and I've enjoyed being back with the England lads."
