Newcastle midfielder Scott Parker has revealed that he hopes to make the England squad after his move to Newcastle.

The recent £6.5 million signing from Chelsea will be playing a lot more first-team football than he did in the countries capital and the former-Charlton man hopes to catch Sven Goran Eriksson eye.

The central midfielder will have just this season to try and convince the Swede that he is good enough to make the World Cup 2006.

Parker said:

"Getting in the England World Cup squad hasn't really entered my head because it's so far off.

"The World Cup would be a bonus. I think I can make the World Cup. I think if I can play and I do well there is a place for me, but it's not in the front of my mind."
