Souness to Fight

After been the bookies favourite to get sacked first in the Premiership, Graeme Souness has vowed to defy the odds.

Souness took over from Sir Bobby Robson last September, but could only direct the club to a 14th placed finish, with an FA Semi-final and UEFA Cup quarter-final not seen as enough for most fans.

This also left Newcastle with no European qualification, forcing them to accept a place in the Inter-Toto Cup.

Souness said:

"If I last another 12 months in this job I will have done well.

"I have to be strong and certainly will not turn my back on this challenge. There is only one way I will go about it - my way.

”I am 52. I do not see myself being here at 62, so I have one chance."
