Paper Talk - Monday July 4

Jebediah’s roundup of Mondays tabloid newspapers, and a look at the stories and rumours involving Newcastle United.

With the Wimbledon finals, Lions match, and cricket taking place over the weekend these events have dominated Monday’s newspapers. The only story reported is that of Craig Bellamy. The Welsh striker, who fell out with manager Graeme Souness and a number of the Newcastle playing staff last season has not managed to seal a move away from Tyneside this summer, despite Freddy Shepherds best efforts to secure a deal. It appears that Bellamy is reluctant to break his Newcastle ties, or perhaps his Newcastle contract, and he is making life difficult for the club to get rid of him.

The Sun is reporting that he will turn up for training today, but will “face the music” as he is unwelcome back at the club. The Mirror is also reporting the same story. Interestingly, it also says that Bellamy will be made to train with the youngsters at the club.

However latest news could be that Bellamy has been given another week of holiday, to give Shepherd more time to transfer the striker away from the Magpies. If true, surely this news will be enough to tell Bellamy that he is not welcome back at the club. He has insisted that he is a Newcastle player and will return for pre-season training as normal, however under the surface he must know that he has caused too much damage to repair.
