So Far…

Steve Harper was born in County Durham. He joined Newcastle from non-league club Seaham Red Star in 1993 when he was 19, but had to wait 5 years to make his debut.

He went on loan to Bradford City in the 95-96 season, but only played one game, but during the 97-98 season he had successful loan spells at Hartlepool and Huddersfield where he played 41 games in total.

Harper played his 10^th game for Newcastle in the FA Cup Final of the 98-99 season against Manchester United, but of course, being a Newcastle player, he only picked up a runners-up medal.

He finally broke into the Newcastle team during the 1999-2000 season, playing 29 games, but he ended up injured and rival, but good friend Shay Given won his place back.

Harper has remained loyal to the club as Given retains his place Harper has only made a handful of appearances each year, usually in cups, but his love for the club keeps him at St. James Park, and most fans are happy we have a reserve keeper of his quality.
