Newcastle and Spurs Target CAN Leave

Newcastle and Spurs target Javier Saviola has been told he is not needed at Barcelona anymore.

The 23-year-old striker spent last season on loan at French club, Monaco, and has now been informed that he is surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona's sporting director Txiki Beguiristain said:

"We have decided Saviola is not in our plans but it is down to him where he plays next season

"He did well for Barcelona but in the current side we have players who offer more. We are well covered in every type forward.

"He won't get the chance to play here and at his age he should be playing.

“We are in contact with a number of clubs to find the best deal for the club and the player."

This is good news for Newcastle, who are desperate for strikers, with only Alan Shearer, Shola Ameobi (injured) and Micheal Chopra likely to remain at the club for next season.
