Dyer agrees new deal

Comments made by Freddy Shepherd have confirmed that Kieron Dyer has agreed a new four year deal with the Newcastle.
Dyer has had his fair share of problems since he moved to Tyneside, however it appears he and the club are ready to put all this behind them and the player will sign a new contract lasting four years.
Graeme Souness has emphasized that he sees Dyer as an important part of his plans, and has made it clear that despite his brawl with Lee Bowyer last season the players future lies with Newcastle. Souness confirmed that the club were ready to open talks with the Englishman at the start of the summer, and Freddy Shepherd has now said that it has been agreed.
The chairman said "Dyer's contract is all agreed. Both we and the player are happy, now its just a matter of checking legal and tax details before its signed."
The news will be relief to some fans, after the player showed arguably his best form since Sir Bobby Robson signed him from Ipswich towards the end of last season, and with just one year left to run on his current deal many fans would have been disappointed to see the player leave for no transfer fee at the end of his contract.
Reports in some papers at the weekend suggested that Dyer was about to sign a new deal, worth a whopping £80k per week, making him one of the highest paid players in the premiership, although it seems unlikely that Shepherd would be prepared to fork out this much on a player who has had injury problems, and with possible summer transfers coming in the wage bill must be kept under control.
