Quotes in a Portuguese weekly newspaper, suggest that Boa Morte would too be keen on a move to St James' Park. Nicolas Anelka has also expressed his interest.

Quotes attributed to Boa Morte in Portuguese weekly newspaper, O Independente:

"Representing Newcastle is different from being at Fulham. It is a bigger club, with more projection and which has other ambitions.

"Who doesn't aim to play at a great club, which takes part regularly in European competitions? I know that at the moment Fulham can't guarantee me this."

Souness is in need of a striker following the departure of Patrick Kluivert and Craig Bellamy.

Alan Shearer, Michael Chopra and Shola Ameobi remain Newcastle's only professional forwards - and out of these, Shola will miss the start of the season as he recovers from a hip operation.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman said earlier this week, that Boa Morte would cost Newcastle at least £5m.
