Speaking to the club's official website, Magpies' chairman Freddy Shepherd has confirmed that he has tabled bids for Fenerbahce striker Nicolas Anelka and Fulham midfielder Luis Boa Morte - both known targets of the club.

Speaking to nufc.co.uk, Shepherd said:

"We have made an offer to Fulham for Luis Boa Morte, and we've also tabled a bid with Fenerbahce for Nicolas Anelka.

"We are now waiting for replies from both clubs."

On Hugo Viana, it was added:

"I had a chat with Hugo, and if he is going to move on then it's best that he hasn't figured for us in Europe, so therefore he won't be involved on Saturday."
