Spanish side Celta Vigo are targeting Newcastle United's out-of-favour midfielder Hugo Viana, but only on loan.

IT is understood that staff at St James' Park will be willing to listen to any offers for the Portuguese midfielder who is low in the Magpies' pecking order.

Celta director of sport Felix Carnero said: "We are interested (in Viana), but only on loan and not in a permanent purchase.

"The contacts relate to an agent and I believe that all is well."

German side Stuttgart have also declared an interest for the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon.
