Toon midfielder Lee Bowyer reveals how he was hurt by chairman Freddy Shepherd trying to flog him off to other clubs following an on-pitch fight with team-mate Kieron Dyer in April.
following the incident, Bowyer was allowed to speak to Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic - but rejected either club, still dissapointed that he was not wanted at St James' Park.
LEE BOWYER: "The chairman was trying to get rid of me, asking other clubs to come in for me.
"That is never nice for a player who gives his all in every game. To find that out was disappointing.
"I want to play for a team that wants me. There have been things said this summer and I was not wanted.
"It is not for me to stay if I will be staying, it is down to the chairman."
Despite everything Shepherd has put him through and the things that have been said, Bowyer continued to stick by the club, and on Wednesday found the net in Newcastle United's Intertoto Cup tie away at Deportivo La Coruna, scoring what could well be a crucial away goal. Well done Bowyer!
Following this, chairman Freddy Shepherd and manager Graeme Souness have issued a joint statement praising the midfielder's commitment.

"We have been delighted to hear Lee's recent comments that he wants to stay with Newcastle United.
"What has happened in the past is now in the past. Lee is a fantastic player and remains one of the most popular lads in the dressing room.
"He has always given 110 percent commitment for the club."
Keep it up!
