Fenerbache seem to have made a complete u turn on Anelka's availablity. it was reported that Newcastle would not be persuing former Real Madrid star at the request of Fenerbache, however at reports of a fresh bust up a price tag has now been put on Anleka, the evening chroncle reports
Fenerbahce have warned Newcastle United that they will not hand over Nicolas Anelka without a fight.
And the word from Istanbul today was that while the Turks are no longer asking for £13m, United will have to cough up at least £6m for Anelka.
I understand that a United representative travelled to talk to Fenerbahce at an undisclosed European destination today after Freddy Shepherd and Graeme Souness were alerted to the fact that Anelka had a row with his coach Christophe Baum at the weekend.
Anelka wants to come to St James' Park and is clearly agitating to get away from Fenerbahce.
However, a source from Istanbul told me today: "Fenerbahce will not be moved by any antics Anelka wants to get up to. After all, they see things like this all the time in Turkey.
"And Newcastle should not think they are going to get Anelka on the cheap. For Fenerbahce will have noticed that Liverpool have signed a non-scoring striker in Peter Crouch and they feel their man is a better proposition."
Obviously time is running out for United to bring in any new blood for Saturday's game with West Ham at St James' Park.
