Owen – It’s Out of Our Hands

If Newcastle have any chance of singing Micheal Owen, it is totally out of our hands now.

I remain very sceptical, and I will believe it when I see it, but any chance we have of getting Owen will not come from our tempting offer.

Liverpool can no doubt match the wages, he loves the club, they have European football, and have actually scored a goal in one of their first 4 games.

There is a slim chance though. We have offered the £16 million and have had it accepted. Liverpool and Real Madrid are yet to trash out a deal, and if they cannot agree, then Owen will surely pick Newcastle over no football at Real Madrid.

Owen needs to be playing regularly if he is to make the 2006 World Cup squad. He will get this at either Liverpool or Newcastle, but Liverpool, admittedly, are the more attractive choice.

We simply have to hope that Liverpool cannot match the £16 million bid and that Madrid won’t budge on the asking price.

There is nothing else we can do, and yes, it seems if we did sign him, we’d all know he’d probably want to be at Liverpool instead, but that doesn’t take away his talent, and he is a decent enough professional, who will stay play to the top of his game if he pulls on a black and white sh

We have to wait and see…and hope.
