Newcastle fans and staff alike are ecstatic that Micheal Owen has AGREED terms with the Tyneside club.

It was expected that Owen would join Liverpool, but he has opted for Newcastle in a move that will surely revitalise The Magpies.

The fee is a record fee which is higher than what the club [aid for Alan Shearer in 1996. The fee is believed to be £16 million.

Owen needed first team football to make the World Cup 2006 squad for England and believes he will get this at Newcastle.

Shepherd said:

"Bringing Michael to St. James' Park will rank alongside the signing of Alan Shearer as my proudest moment at Newcastle United.

“Newcastle fans love centre-forwards and Michael is a fantastic goalscorer. He's someone we would love to build the team around and we hope he can help us bring success to the club."
