Shearer Wants Another Win At Portsmouth

Following wins over Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City, Toon striker Alan Shearer hopes that Newcastle United can continue their recent improved form this weekend, as the Magpies' take on Portsmouth.

Shearer said: “We’ve got to take our recent good form into that game (against Pompey).

“We’re playing with confidence now, which is something we didn’t have at the start of the season for one reason or another. Our last two victories have put us in good stead and we've got to carry that on. We’ve got one or two injury problems, but so have Pompey. If we approach the game like we have in our last two games, then there is no reason why we can't get the three points.”

Portsmouth have not had the best of stats to the Permiership season, and have not won any of their last three games - not even against lower league Gillingham Town in a Carling Cup tie.

Both Shearer and Owen will be confident of adding to their goal tally for the season.  Although there was never any doubts that Owen and Shearer would get along just fine.

“We enjoyed good times with England and we’re good friends off the pitch so it’s not taken long to get into the groove,” added Shearer.

“He’s (Owen) a top drawer player, if you give him chances he’ll score goals, that’s guaranteed.”
