An Owen-less Newcastle United were lucky to get a draw against a Pompey side who were constantly denied by Shay Given.

Matthew Taylor had 2 good chances for Pompey late on, producing 2 very good saves from Shay Given, showing the MOTM performance from the Irish international.

Boumsong seemed to have gained his confidence again, making a superb last-ditch tackle to save Newcastle, and Given the made a save from Silva.

N’Zogbia had Newcastle’s best chance before half-time where his cross deceived the Pompey defence and a scrambling Jamie Ashdown just managed to get it away.

Celestine Babayaro, clearly not liking the way the game was going, picked up an injury as usually and had to be replaced by Robbie Elliot.

Vukic and Silva both went close for Pompey before Taylor had his 2 chances, one being tipped onto the bar and the other going for a corner.

Newcastle dodged another bullet as Silva rounded given 3 minutes from time but went down, and instead of the penalty he wanted, was booked for diving.

FINAL SCORE: 0-0
