Souness' tenure as manager has been blighted by injuries and he has never had the luxury of having a 100% fit squad. He still remains confident of being up and about the European places
"The aim is to qualify for Europe and I don't think we are a million miles away from doing that," said the former Blackburn chief.
"We've not seen our best team yet and in that respect I'm like a fan - I can't wait to see everybody back and fit."
He also feels that with Chelsea rampaging towards the league that the quest for European places is wide open.
"It is quite open," he added. "The big teams are huffing and puffing and we are not far behind."
I tend to agree with him, with Liverpool, Arsenal and even Man Utd struggling to a degree, we have a real chance to string some wins together and get into a good postion. The international break will give us a chance to get our best players back and move up the table.West Ham, Wigan and Charlton will soon find their normal level and we have a real chance of making Europe, provided we get our players back soon, and keep them fit.We also need 2-3 squad players in January to reinforce what is a thin squad.
