Magpies striker Alan Shearer has not been charged by the English FA over his clash with Everton's David Weir on Sunday, the FA have confirmed.
The FA confirmed on yesterday they cannot take the matter further after match referee Howard Webb confirmed he had seen the incident.
Shearer had gone up for a header with the Everton defender and appeared to have caught Weir in the process.
The FA's director of communications, Adrian Bevington said: "Howard Webb has confirmed to us that he saw the incident at the time,
"Therefore, that prevents us from taking any other action under FIFA regulations.
"The matter is now closed."
