Newcastle vs Villa: Oppositions Preview
By Matt Jones
December 2 2005
A preview of the match written by a Villa fan especially for Tyne Talk.
Well, it's been a really disappointing season down the Villa so far. The
much talked about takeover never happened and the arrival of eight new
players has failed to propel the team up the league as we'd hoped. The only
decent things to have come so far can be counted on one hand. Steven Davis,
James Milner, Kevin Phillips and beating Birmingham 0-1 at St Andrews. Apart
from that the team has done very little to earn praise, with the defence in
complete disarray match after match.
To be honest there is very little for you guys to be worried about when the
two teams meet (unless the hilarious punch up and two sendings off occurs
again). Owen will score, and because Villa give a penalty away every game,
Shearer will also be on the mark. In reply Villa will lump long balls to the
giants that are Kevin Phillips and Milan Baros, in the hope that they might
score a 20 yard header :P .
Doug Ellis takes a lot of stick but now fans are starting to ask questions
of David O'Leary, his tactics and his motivational skills. Over the last 12
months we've been knocked out of the league cup by Burnley 3-1, knocked out
of the FA Cup by Sheff Utd 3-1 and knocked out of the League Cup this season
by Doncaster 3-0. The team lacks basic organisation but every week we here
the same old excuses about a small squad and bad refereeing. To be fair the
match officials have given us nothing this season but that doesn't account
for the utter drivel and spineless performances served up so far. The guy
needs to sort it out and fast.
My prediction for Newcastle/Villa. 2-0 Newcastle - and you won't even have
to break sweat to get it.
